Guwahati (Assam) [India], March 12 (ANI): Assam TMC president Ripun Bora on Tuesday lashed out at the centre over the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the country and called it "unconstitutional and undemocratic."
"CAA is against the interest of the people of Assam. It will completely nullify the Assam accord," he said.
He further added that the CAA will endanger the security, identity, culture, history and economy of the people of Assam.
Expressing discontent, he said, "Therefore we strongly oppose the implementation of CAA in Assam."
Accusing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of polarizing society, the Assam TMC chief said, "The BJP is polarizing the country to register a victory in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections."
Appreciating Bengal Chief Minister, Ripun Bora said that Mamata Banerjee has been fighting against CAA and we are also still fighting against it.
Meanwhile, The President of Assam Mahila Congress Mira Borthakur came out strongly against the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA) by the BJP-led Central government. "We are against this religious polarization," she said.

Earlier on Monday, protests erupted in the state after the central government notified the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
All Assam Students' Union (AASU) burned a copy replica of the CAA in Guwahati and other parts of the state on Monday evening, protesting against the Centre's move to implement the CAA.AASU leadership said that they will continue their non-violent movement against the CAA across the state.
The President of the AAP, Assam unit, Dr Bhaben Choudhury said that the Modi government's push for the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) amidst economic turmoil is a blatant attempt to distract from real issues.
