Burari murder case: Accused sent to four-day police custody
New Delhi [India], Sept. 21 (ANI): A Delhi court on Wednesday sent the Burari murder case accused to four-day police custody. Surender Singh, the accused, was earlier arrested by the Delhi Police on charges of stabbing a 21-year-old woman in Burari area. The victim has been identified as Karuna, a teacher with a private school in North Delhi. The woman was walking to school when the accused intercepted her on his motorcycle and repeatedly stabbed her, killing her on the spot. Dubbing the Burari incident as the failure of system and society, DCW chief Swati Maliwal on Wednesday said Delhi has become the stalking capital of the world with increasing cases of harassment being registered here. Maliwal also slammed the Delhi Police for inaction and said that the victim had filed a proper complaint of molestation but no cognizance was taken. "It is very saddening and a matter of shame that a girl is stabbed 22 times by a pair of scissors and killed in broad day light. The eight people, who were standing there, did not do anything. I believe if the people present there would have raised their voice against the brutal act then I don't think that the guilty would have had the guts to commit such a brutal crime. This shows the failure of the whole system and the society," said Maliwal. "I spoke to the family and they say that they had filed a complaint of molestation with the Delhi Police but they did not take any action. The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) now will be issuing a notice to the Delhi Police to find out when this complaint was d and what action did the Delhi Police take in this regard because the truth is that Delhi now is not only the rape capital of the world but has also become the stalking capital of the world," he added. The horrible incident in Delhi's Burari area was captured in a CCTV camera. The accused was seen stabbing the woman 27-28 times with a knife. In the video, the man is seen pouncing on the 21-year-old-girl and stabbing her as she helplessly lied on the ground.(ANI)
