Bulandshahr shame: Women activist draws attention to 'jungle raj' in UP
New Delhi, [India], Aug. 30 (ANI): Women rights activist Ranjana Kumari on Tuesday condemned the abortion of a teen rape victim by the culprit's family in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district and said such incidents highlight the existing 'jungle raj' in the state. Kumari said such incidents speak about the condition of women in the nation. "This is the story of our society; it speaks volumes about how young women are treated in our country and how their bodies are controlled by others. First she has to go through the torture of rape and then she gets pregnant and then there is a forced abortion. In both eventualities, it is the women who are suffering," said Kumari. "There is no law and order. In this case, the person who has forced her to go for abortion should be punished," he added. Just a month after the brutal gang-rape in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr District, a similar incident has come to the fore here wherein a teen was forced to undergo abortion by the culprit's family after being allegedly raped. The incident took place five months ago when the victim was allegedly raped by a boy in Bhaipura village. As per the victim, the accused threatened her not to disclose the incident to anyone. However, days after the incident the victim was admitted in a nursing home when her health deteriorated. It was then revealed that the victim was pregnant. "I did not tell anyone out of fear. The mother of the rapist told me that she would pay me Rs. 1000 if I undergo abortion," the victim said. The police have registered a case in this regard and have also started searching for the accused. The cops have also arrested the nursing home officials for doing the abortion. The state's health department has seized the nursing home. (ANI)
