Agartala (Tripura) [India], Dec. 15 (ANI): Tripura unit of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) supported Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) employees took part in the one-day countrywide strike on Thursday in protest against cell tower privatisation. They held demonstrations in BSNL office premises across the state today to condemn the Centre's move. BSNL has around 65,000 mobile towers across the country. The Central Communications Ministry has submitted a note to the cabinet to set up a tower corporation by dividing the towers administration from BSNL. The unions have been demanding withdrawal of a decision to establish a Subsidiary Tower Company to take control of over 65,000 towers from the BSNL and alleged that the move was to benefit private telecom operators.
