Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], August 21 (ANI): Senior BJP leader and Union Minister of State, Bandi Sanjay Kumar said on Wednesday that former Telangana Chief Minister, KCR-led Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) is going to merge with Congress soon and that's why the Congress has nominated Kavitha's lawyer, Abhishek Manu Singhvi for the Rajya Sabha by-polls from Telangana.
Bandi Sanjay said, "KCR has reached an understanding with the Congress. Only after this, did the Congress nominate the lawyer of Kavitha for the Rajya Sabha. Despite having 39 votes, BRS has not filed any nominations. The party is going to merge with Congress soon. Both of them are family-oriented parties and both are corrupt too."
Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi filed his nomination on Monday for the Rajya Sabha bypoll from Telangana.
Earlier, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao on Thursday denied Congress' allegation that his party has a "secret understanding" with the BJP. He said that if his party had any understanding with the BJP, his sister K Kavitha would not have been in jail in money laundering cases linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.
"They (Congress) say that BRS will not exist and it will be merged. They say all the talks are done. Kavitha is in jail. If we had a secret agreement with them, would she have spent 150 days in jail?" KTR questioned while addressing a public gathering here.
Meanwhile, The Supreme Court on August 12 issued notices to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha's plea challenging Delhi High Court order which rejected her bail in connection with the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.
On May 6, the Rouse Avenue Court dismissed the bail petitions moved by K Kavitha in connection with CBI and ED cases. ED arrested K Kavitha on March 15, 2024, and CBI on April 11, 2024. (ANI)
