Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], August 21 (ANI): The 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill, introduced under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, is a transformative step toward realising a Viksit Bharat, said Tamil Nadu BJP Spokesperson ANS Prasad.
In a statement, Prasad stated, "Rooted in the sanctity of BR Ambedkar's Constitution, this Bill serves as a powerful instrument, a Brahmastra, to ensure corruption-free governance by barring those convicted in criminal cases and imprisoned for 30 days from holding public office. It is a resolute commitment to justice, accountability, and the aspirations of India's citizens."
Prasad further said, "Regrettably, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and their INDI alliance partners have opposed this historic Bill, falsely labeling it a threat to democracy. Their resistance betrays a deep-seated aversion to clean governance, exposing their intent to shield corrupt elements."
"Far from undermining democracy, this legislation strengthens it by ensuring that only leaders of unimpeachable integrity occupy positions of power, fulfilling the people's demand for ethical governance," he added.
The BJP leader further stated that the INDI Alliance's hypocrisy is glaring. The Congress-led UPA's notorious misuse of Article 356 to dismiss democratically elected State Governments remains a stain on India's federal structure. Their accusations of "dictatorship" against this Bill are a desperate attempt to obscure their own authoritarian legacy, which the nation remembers with disdain.
He further asserted that the DMK's handling of Minister Senthil Balaji's case exemplifies their moral bankruptcy. Arrested for money laundering in the cash-for-jobs scam, he was retained as a Minister without Portfolio and later reinstated, only to be removed after Supreme Court criticism. The Court's condemnation of the DMK's delay tactics in this investigation underscores their contempt for justice--a practice this Bill aims to eradicate.
ANS Prasad further asked "Is it not evident that a minister wielding office can manipulate their own legal proceedings? The INDI Alliance's opposition to this Bill raises a critical question: Are they defending democracy or protecting tainted leaders from accountability? Their legacy--from the 2G Spectrum Scam to Tamil Nadu's TASMAC dealings and Arvind Kejriwal's prolonged tenure despite corruption charges--reveals an entrenched commitment to malfeasance."
The BJP leader said, "When the Supreme Court struck down Section 8(4) of the Representation of the People Act, the UPA rushed to shield convicted legislators with an ordinance, exposing their priorities. Though rebranded as INDI, their ethos of defending corruption persists. In contrast, the 130th Amendment embodies the people's will, ensuring governance free from the shadow of crime and corruption."
"Stalin, Rahul Gandhi, and their allies must transcend partisan politics and support this landmark legislation. To oppose it is to stand against the constitutional values of justice and progress. The Indian people eagerly await its passage, heralding an era where leaders are held accountable, and governance is untainted," he added.
Prasad exhorted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah's leadership, the NDA is forging a Viksit Bharat rooted in integrity. The 130th Amendment is a beacon of hope, showcasing India's commitment to justice on the global stage. Let us unite in this noble pursuit, rejecting those who prioritize corruption over the Constitution. (ANI)
