Bombay HC adjourns hearing on plea seeking stay on release of PM Modi's biopic

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], Mar 29 (ANI): Bombay High Court on Friday adjourned the hearing to April 1 on a plea seeking a stay on the release of a biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The petitioner, Satish Gaikwad, a resident of Pune, has argued in his plea filed before the High Court on Tuesday that the release of the film titled 'PM Narendra Modi Ssingh' before the General Elections will be a violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
The stay on the release of the film is a necessity for a “transparent election”, the petitioner said in his plea.
The petitioner has also demanded that the trailer of the film should either be removed or deleted from all social media sites.
"We have conveyed the urgency in front of the Chief Justice that the film would be released on April 5. He (EC's standing counsel) is of the view that we have not got the notice up till now," the petitioner said.
He also claimed that the film would indirectly promote Narendra Modi.
"The title of the film is itself clearing on whom the picture is being made. Indirectly this film would promote Narendra Modi. Our basic demand is to stay the release of the film till the elections are over. There should be free and fair elections in India," he said.
The National Students' Union of India, the Congress party's student wing unit of Goa, on March 15 had urged the Election Commission to ban the release of Narendra Modi biopic, alleging that the movie was “propaganda by the BJP to influence” voters during the Lok Sabha elections. (ANI)
