Guwahati (Assam) [India], March 24 (ANI): Assam BJP MLA Bhabesh Kalita on Monday condemned Congress MLA Nurul Huda for allegedly attacking Deputy Speaker Numal Momin during question hour in the Assembly, accusing the Congress of disregarding rules and attempting to "destroy democracy."
Speaking to ANI, Kalita accused the Congress of trying to destroy democracy.
"In today's Assembly session, during question hour, our Deputy Speaker Numal Momin was attacked by Congress MLA Nurul Huda. This is not sending out a good message regarding democracy. I condemn this. Congress doesn't follow any rules. They destroyed the country, and they are trying to destroy democracy as well," Kalita said.
Earlier today, following protests by Congress and AIUDF against a BJP MLA, Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika also accused Congress MLA Nurul Huda of physically assaulting Deputy Speaker Numal Momin.
Hazarika called the attack a direct insult to the Assembly and the Constitution.
