"BJP wants to come to power by such unfair means": Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Rai on SIR

New Delhi [India], November 26 (ANI): Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Rai on Wednesday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party over Special Intensive Revision and said that the ruling party wants to come to power through unfair means.
Speaking to ANI, Rai said, "I had meetings with the officials in Mau. We will not accept all that is being done in the name of SIR. So many BLOs have died by suicide. The voter list of 2003 is missing. If they (BJP) want to come to power by such unfair means, we will protest against it."
Meanwhile, the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) on Tuesday boycotted work to register their protest against the authorities over the alleged suicide of a colleague in Kerala's Kannur.
The Council of State government employees jointly organised the protest, along with the Teachers Action Council and the Teachers Service Organisation. They have held the Election Commission accountable for the death of their colleague, Aneesh George, an office attendant at Kunnaru AUP School.
They have said that BLOs remain under severe pressure due to the intense voter list revision process. The additional burden of local body election duties has further increased their stress.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday launched a scathing attack against the Bharatiya Janata Party after several Booth Level Officers (BLOs) across the country, who were "overburdened" during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision(SIR) of the electoral roll, died by suicide.
The row erupted after a BLO in Kerala's Kannur died by suicide, followed by a similar incident in West Bengal.
Sharing a media report claiming the demise of 16 BLOs in six states, Kharge said that the alleged electoral fraud has taken a "deadly turn."
In an X post, calling it a "forced implementation" of the SIR exercise, he compared it to the demonetization and the COVID lockdown times.
Congress chief also questioned the Election Commission for their silence on the deaths of the BLOs.
Terming the alleged suicides as a consequence of the BJP's "hunger for power," the Congress chief appealed to the masses to raise their voice against the SIR exercise, currently underway in 12 States and Union Territories. (ANI)
