Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], December 1 (ANI): DMK's mouthpiece, Murasoli, has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to tarnish the DMK government's reputation.
In a hard-hitting editorial, Murasoli, DMK's mouthpiece, questions the ED's claim of Rs 4730 crore corruption in sand mining over the past two years, challenging the basis of this calculation and the BJP government's ability to measure sand levels accurately. The DMK alleges that these figures are arbitrary and that the BJP is now scrambling to find evidence to support them.
"The BJP uses ED to create a black mark on the DMK government. ED has said some random numbers before the Court that in two years, RS 4730 crores of corruption has been done in sand mining. How did they get to know how much sand was in the river two years ago? The BJP government only has the talent to measure the sand level. They are just framing numbers such as 4 thousand and 5 thousand crores. After revealing this, they are now going to search for evidence and inquire with the district collectors. Before everything, how did they calculate Rs 4730 crore? With what calculation did they say this?" DMK mouthpiece Murasoli said in its column.
"Between 2011 and 2021, the Public Works Department was with Pannerselvam and Edappadi Palaniswami. PM Modi is the person who shared the stage with both left and right. The BJP is a party that is waiting to travel on these two shoulders after compromising them," the editorial said.
Further, Murasoli highlighted allegations of corruption against AIADMK Government Minister Vijayabaskar during Edappadi Palaniswami's tenure. The publication points out that, despite the Income Tax Department's seizure of Vijayabaskar's accounts and properties following a raid in 2017, no further action was taken. The minister's relatives were reportedly operating a quarry in Pudukottai amidst these allegations.
"During Edappadi Palaniswami, AIADMK Government Minister Vijayabaskar's relatives were running a quarry in Pudukottai. There were a lot of allegations of scams and corruption in Vijayabaskar. In 2017, IT conducted searches on premises related to Vijajayabaskar. After the raid, IT seized Vijayabaskar's accounts and properties. But there was no action after that," it stated.
"Likewise, everyone knows how Sanatana Governor 'Ravi' made it late to give prosecution for the CBI inquiry in the Gutkha case and other DVAC cases against former ministers. These people are only now building 'Sand House' with Rs 4,730 crores," it added. (ANI)
