Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], June 1 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Hooghly Lok Sabha constituency Locket Chatterjee expressed confidence in BJP winning more than 30 seats in West Bengal after voting concluded for the seventh phase of parliamentary elections in the state on Saturday.
She also said that the higher number of seats won by the BJP would decide the early toppling of TMC government in West Bengal
Locket Chatterjee said, "A large number of people have voted for BJP. Even the TMC people are upset about their party. BJP is going to get more than 30 seats in the state. There is a possibility that the TMC government can get toppled before 2026. The higher the number of seats for the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls, the earlier the TMC govt is expected to get toppled. Mamata Banerjee talks about democracy but the situation in West Bengal is the worst. Congress has no existence in the state."
With 42 seats,West Bengal is among the key states after Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra to decide which party comes to power at the Centre.
She said that the violent clashes that erupted between the TMC and Indian Secular Front (ISF) supporters in Jadavpur's Bhangar were not expected.
"The violence was not expected. There was a large presence of central forces still they did not agree. We know what happened in the fifth and sixth phases. The maximum number of cases of violence have emerged from Bengal. Congress will get even fewer seats compared to last time in 2019," she further said.
Reacting to criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 45-hour meditation at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Tamil Nadu's Kanniyakumari by Congress she asked that if anyone is meditating then what is the need to feel jealous.
"If anyone is meditating then what is the need to feel jealous? If someone is praying then what is the need to feel jealous? I see that whenever PM Modi is engaged in spiritual work many people do not like it. Even they can do such things. They are jealous because they do not have the support or encouragement from the people. We all worship to god," she added.
She further asserted that TMC would fall before 2026.
"I don't consider Abhishek Banerjee as a leader. He is just the nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Without her, he has no identity. They talk about PM Modi but they are mired in corruption. West Bengal is sunk in corruption. This voting is against corruption. We will do well in 2024 and before 2026 TMC will fall," she added.
The voting for the final phase was concluded in West Bengal's nine seats, including Barasat, Basirhat, Diamond Harbour, Dum Dum, Jaynagar, Jadavpur, Kolkata Dakshin, Kolkata Uttar, and Mathurapur. The counting of votes will be held on June 4.
As per the ECI, West Bengal is leading the voter turnout charts at 69.89 per cent till 5 pm. (ANI)
