Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], April 4 (ANI): Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party, saying that the people of Himachal Pradesh have given the BJP a mandate to sit in opposition for five years and they have to accept it.
Senior Congress leader and Himachal Minister Jagat Singh Negi said that the BJP has made unsuccessful efforts to destabilise the government in the state.
While addressing the media, he said, "The BJP and especially LoP, Jai Ram Thakur, need to accept that people have given you a mandate to sit in opposition."
Negi, while speaking to ANI, also said that Kangana Ranaut from Mandi is not a big challenge as she doesn't even know the names of the areas under the Mandi parliamentary constituency.
"As far as you talk about Kangana Ranaut as a challenge, she is new to the constituency; she doesn't even know the names of the area, especially the four tribal areas; she is not individually a big challenge for us," said Negi.
"As far as the BJP is concerned, during the past ten years we did not get anything; the tribal people have been in distress in the entire country and Himachal. There is a threat to the internal security of the country; the country is in economic crisis. The constitution under the anti-people rule of the BJP is under threat and it is certain not only in Mandi but that there will be a change in rule in the country. We already have a woman as a sitting MP and she will continue against the BJP's candidate," said Negi.
He said that the Congress party will soon announce candidates for four Parliamentary and 6 Assembly by-elections in the state. He said that the elections are scheduled in the 7th phase in Himachal Pradesh, and the party will finalise the candidates soon and the high command will decide on it.
On being asked about the resignation of three MLAs not being accepted, Negi said that they have complained to the Speaker that the resignation of three independent MLAs was done under the influence of BJP and the Speaker has taken action and the matter is under investigation, which is legal. He said that the BJP is trying to drag the governor into this issue, which is very unfortunate.
"The ruling of the Supreme Court is in another reference but the case here in the HP Assembly is different. These three MLAs, just after the Rajya Sabha polling on February 27th, were in the grip of the BJP and were under the custody and protection of the CRPF. The BJP was facilitating their boarding and lodging and what kind of willingness is this? They were locked in hotels and were not doing any public jobs for over a month; they did not attend any meetings of the various committees of the assembly. This is just part of the BJP's conspiracy," added Negi while speaking to ANI.
Whatever the BJP has done is unfortunate and unconstitutional. "Criminal acts were done by Jai Ram Thakur. The BJP state Chief also tried to break the door. The act of the BJP is a big threat to Indian democracy," said Negi.
"LoP Jai Ram Thakur has been questioning the guarantees of Congress. The scheme of providing 1500 rupees per month to women was started but the BJP stopped and brought it under MCC. They are against women," he said.
He alleged that after allurement and the use of money power, the BJP brought the MLAs.
"I want to ask the BJP if there is any magic stick that has brought these MLAs to them. This has happened only because of the allure and the use of money power by the BJP. And what was the need to keep them under influence? They were released only after they joined the BJP," said Negi. (ANI)
