New Delhi [India], September 10 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party MP Praveen Khandelwal on Tuesday criticised the INDIA alliance parties for their silence on the rape and murder of a woman doctor at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital incident.
"In this matter, not only Mamata Banerjee but also the INDI Alliance is entirely responsible, as no party has yet spoken a single word in support of the victim," he said.
Khandelwal also accused Chief Minister Banerjee of being unconcerned about the people and only wanting to further her political interests.
"There was vandalism in the hospital. Why werent those responsible for the vandalism arrested? Were there no CCTV cameras in the hospital? Couldn't the culprits be identified through these cameras? It seems that Mamata Banerjee is not concerned about the people; she only wants to further her political interests," he told ANI.
He further targeted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying that doctors in Kolkata are protesting as CM Banerjee has proved to be a failure in the Kolkata rape and murder incident.
"Doctors are on strike because Mamata Banerjee has proven to be a failure in this entire matter and has not been able to take any effective steps," he said.
Khandelwal also accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of failing in handling the Kolkata rape murder case and accused her of lying to conceal her failure.
"In the RG Kar case, the whole country knows that Mamata Banerjee has completely failed and, in order to cover her failure, she keeps on lying... victim's mother, statement will be considered true because she is the mother of the victim...Compensation may be necessary for livelihood... However, in India, a mother cannot compromise on her daughter's demand for justice," he told ANI.
His remarks follow allegations from the victim's mother, who on Monday accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of lying about not offering financial compensation.
"The Chief Minister is lying. My daughter will not return. Would I lie in her name? The Chief Minister told us that we would receive money and suggested that we create something in our daughter's memory. I responded that I would come to her office to collect the money once my daughter gets justice," the victim's mother told ANI.
CM Mamata Banerjee has denied offering any money to the family of the deceased trainee doctor who was raped and murdered in Kolkata.
"I have never offered money to the deceased doctor's family. This is nothing but slander. I only told the deceased doctor's parents that if they wished to do something in their daughter's memory, our government would support them," she said.
The brutal rape and murder of a trainee woman doctor in Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has sparked widespread protests in West Bengal and across the country. The victim was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
On September 9, the Supreme Court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file a fresh status report by next week in connection with the murder and rape case.
Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer at the G Kar Medical College and Hospital, has been arrested in connection with the incident. (ANI)
