Panchkula (Haryana) [India], September 29 (ANI): Congress MP Kumari Shelja on Sunday campaigned in support of the party's candidate from Kalka assembly seat Pradeep Chaudhary and affirmed confidence that he will come out victorious in the upcoming assembly elections despite facing many challenges.
"Congress candidate from Kalka, Pradeep Chaudhary has faced a lot of challenges...He always stood with the public...BJP has always conspired against Congress leaders...I am confident that people will vote for the Congress candidate in large numbers," Selja told reporters on Sunday.
Pradeep Chaudhary has again been given the ticket by the Congress party from the seat. He also won the Kalka assembly seat in the 2019 Assembly polls by defeating BJP candidate Latika Sharma with a vote margin of 4.7 per cent.
Meanwhile, ahead of Haryana assembly polls, state Congress Chief Udai Bhan has sought stern action against nine party rebels who are contesting against the party's official nominees or supporting candidates of other parties.
In a letter to Manoj Chauhan, AICC secretary and co-incharge of Haryana, Udai Bhan said the party rebels have indulged in "anti-party activities."
The letter recommended the expulsion of Sharda Rathore, Rohita Revri, Satbir Bhana, Rajkumar Valmiki, Kapoor Narwal, Virender Gogdia, Harsh Kumar, Lalit Nagar and Satbir Ratera.
The Congress Party on Saturday released its manifesto ahead of the Haryana assembly elections, with major promises ranging from free electricity, free medical treatment, financial assistance to women, MSP guarantee to the farmers and conducting caste census in the state.
In the major highlights of the manifesto, the Congress party has promised to provide 300 units of free electricity and free medical treatment up to Rs 25 lakhs to every family in Haryana.
On similar lines as Madhya Pradesh's 'Ladli Behen Yojana' and Maharashtra's 'Ladki Behen Yojana', the Congress has also promised to provide Rs 2000 per month to women, aged 18-60 in the state. The manifesto also promises to provide Rs 500 for Gas cylinders.
Haryana goes to the polls on October 5 to elect a 90-member state legislative assembly to form its next government, with the counting set to take place on October 8.
In 2019, the BJP emerged as the single-largest party with 40 seats. Congress won 30 seats. (ANI)
