BJP denounces SP, QED alliance, says merger will worsen law and order in UP
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), [India] Aug. 30 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday slammed the Samajwadi Party for wanting to join hands with Quami Ekta Dal (QED) and said that this merger will only worsen the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh. BJP leader I.P. Singh said, "Mukhtar Ansari is a mafia don in the Purvanchal. He has over 70 murder charges against him. And he is behind bars for the past 15 years. And in this time only he formed the Quami Ekta Dal. Now the Samajwadi Party wants to join hands with them. The law and order situation is already brittle in the state. This step by the SP shows that they want to just win elections and does not care about the state." However, according to reports, QED national president Afzal Ansari has refuted reports of Ansari brothers holding a meeting with Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav regarding the merger of Quami Ekta Dal with SP. Media reports yesterday hinted that the merger of QED with SP was almost complete. Earlier, also there were reports that SP appeared all set to embrace gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari's QED ahead of 2017 UP Assembly polls. (ANI)
