BJP can't win UP polls by simply gathering people on stage: Samajwadi Party
Lucknow (UP) [India], Nov. 7 (ANI): Taking a jibe at the Bharatiya Janata Party's 'parivartan yatra', the Samajwadi Party (SP) said Monday that BJP lacks a clear cut strategy for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh polls and that it cannot win the public by gathering leaders on stage. "They (BJP) cannot win public opinion just by gathering leaders on a stage. They don't have any roadmap or strategy for the 2017 elections," SP leader Ashok Bajpai told ANI. He said that after an embarrassing defeat in Bihar State elections, the BJP fears that a similar result in Uttar Pradesh would prove to be a heavy loss for national elections in 2019. "It's almost three years that the BJP came to power at the Centre with much public support. But today, there is not even a single result that the people can say they have benefitted from. They have disappointed the people, who will improve their mistake made in 2014 by electing BJP," Bajpai added. He said that BJP rallies like its recent 'parivartan yatra' have failed to attract the people while Akhilesh Yadav's 'rath yatra' drew thousands of supporters. BJP's 'parivartan rally' kicked off in Saharanpur on Saturday with party president Amit Shah taking to the stage. On Sunday Rajnath Singh addressed the parivartan yatra in Jhansi. Two more rallies will be flagged off in quick succession - Sonbhadra on 8 November and Ballia on 9 November. Uma Bharti, Kalraj Mishra, Keshav Maurya will be leading these yatras at various points. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself will hold six rallies as part the parivartan yatra. While the locations for five of the rallies have not been decided yet, his last and concluding rally would be held in Lucknow on 24 December. (ANI)
