BJP blames illegal renovations for incidents like Ghatkopar
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 26 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday said incidents like the Ghatkopar building collapse happen because of illegal renovations. "These incidents take place because of the illegal renovation and internal structures are being played around with in the name of interior decoration," BJP Member of Parliament Kirit Somaiya told ANI. The renovation work was undertaken on the ground floor nursing home, reportedly owned by the Shiv Sena leader Sunil Shitap. The Shiv Sena leader has been booked for culpable homicide. So far, 17 people have died. The building was located at L.B.S. Marg, near Shreyas Cinema, Damodar Park, Ghatkopar. "Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has assured that those who are involved in this mishap will be arrested. If the contractors, architects and even if the authorities found involved then action will be taken against them," said Somaiya. "The government will ensure that the affected and aggrieved people get proper relief and rehabilitated soon," he added. "Prima facie, it is revealed that the accused was carrying out illegal renovation in the building. At this juncture, it will not be appropriate to give other details as investigation is underway and available information needs verification," Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Deven Bharti told ANI. Fadnavis has directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to file a report on the incident within 15 days. "The offence has been registered. Police is investigating the matter. I have directed the BMC Commissioner to investigate and submit a report within 15 days," Fadnavis told media. He said that the government will take a strict action against the culprits. (ANI)
