New Delhi [India], July 1 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on Hindu community, Agniveer scheme and Ayodhya compensation.
Lok Sabha witnessed an uproar on Monday over Rahul Gandhi's remarks pertaining to the Hindu community with Home Minister Amit Shah saying that the Congress leader should "apologise" over his remarks.
"The Leader of Opposition has categorically said that those who call themselves Hindu talk of violence and do violence. He doesn't know that crores of people proudly call themselves Hindu. Connecting violence with any religion is wrong. He should apologise," Amit Shah said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hit out at Rahul Gandhi over his remarks and said calling "the entire Hindu community violent is a very serious matter".
BJP President JP Nadda demanded an apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his remarks in Lok Sabha alleging that he spoke "lies" and reflected "Hindu hatred" and that he has not learnt from the mandate of 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
"First day, worst show! Lies + Hindu hatred = Rahul Gandhi Ji in Parliament. Third Time Fail LoP has a knack for agitated, flawed logic. His speech today has shown that neither has he understood the mandate of 2024 (his third successive loss) nor does he have any humility," JP Nadda posted on X.
"Rahul Gandhi Ji must immediately APOLOGISE to all Hindus for terming them as violent. This is the same person who was telling foreign diplomats that Hindus are terrorists. This intrinsic hate towards Hindus must stop," he added.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that the latter has taken up a position of Leader of Opposition for the first time and has made very irresponsible statements thus bringing the level of politics down.
"The position of the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) is a highly responsible one. Leaders like Atal Ji, Advani Ji, and Sushma Ji have handled this responsibility with great care. Today, Rahul Gandhi has taken up a position for the first time and has made very irresponsible statements. Rahul said that no compensation is given to the martyrs under the Agniveer scheme. This is the biggest lie. Today, the Defence Minister clearly stated in Parliament that martyrs under the Agniveer scheme receive a compensation of Rs 1 crore. Rahul Ji should check his facts before making such statements. Congress has always raised such questions about the army and tried to mislead the country," Vaishnaw said.
BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi criticized Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's speech in Parliament, accusing him of insulting Hindu society and undermining the credibility of the UPA governance.
Trivedi said that whatever Rahul Gandhi says reflects his mindset.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav attacked Rahul Gandhi saying the Congress leader should apologise immediately and the Congress party should clarify its stand whether it agrees with the statement or not.
CM Yadav also appealed to the National President of the Congress party to immediately ask for the resignation of Rahul Gandhi.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar hit out at Rahul Gandhi for his remarks in the Parliament and accused him of "attacking Hindus."
"This is now the Leader of Opposition. Who attacks Hindus while professing brotherhood to all. Who disparages the Indian Army's bravery, while expressing concern for their welfare. Who tears up Cabinet decisions, while preaching respect for Constitution. Welcome to the politics of the Congress Party," Jaishankar posted on X.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju slammed the Leader of Opposition and said Gandhi would have to face the rules of the house if he has lied. Rijiju also said that being in the post of LoP, he cannot lie and mislead people.
Participating in the debate on the Motion Of Thanks on the President's Address, Rahul Gandhi targeted the BJP-led government over the Agniveer scheme and claimed that Agniveer is not called a 'jawan' and said that Agniveers serving for a period of four years will not get a pension.
"One Agniveer lost his life in a landmine blast but he is not called a 'martyr'... 'Agniveer' is a use and throw labourer," Rahul Gandhi alleged, attacking the BJP-led NDA government over the scheme," he had said.
He also called the Hindu symbol 'Abhayamudra' which gestures fearlessness, reassurance and safety, as the symbol of the Congress party.
"Abhayamudra is the symbol of Congress...The Abhayamudra is the gesture of fearlessness, is the gesture of reassurance and safety, which dispels fear and accords divine protection and bliss in Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism and other Indian religions...All our great men have spoken about non-violence and finishing fear...But, those who call themselves Hindu only talk about violence, hatred, untruth...Aap Hindu ho hi nahi," the Congress leader said.
