Patna (Bihar) [India], August 24 (ANI): Independent MP from Bihar's Purnia, Pappu Yadav on Saturday lashed out at the BJP-led central government over various issues and said that he is with Rahul Gandhi.
Talking to ANI he said, "We are supporting the INDIA alliance".
He accused the BJP of attacking the Constitution saying, "There is an attack on the constitutional systems. There are different issues like Agniveer, creamy layer, reservation, Waqf board"
He further said that Bihar was not allotted any special package in this year's budget.
"No special package was given to Bihar. Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand are allotted more funds" the Purnia MP said.
He said that a Sankalp Yatra will be carried out this year after the assembly elections.
"Everyone is doing politics on these issues. We are with Rahul Gandhi. After the assembly elections in different states, a Sankalp Yatra will be carried out to save the country and Bihar," he said.
"Pappu Yadav and Congress can only fight for the special status for Bihar" Yadav added.
Hitting out at the Union government for the newly proposed Waqf Amendment Bill he said " No Muslim organisation were consulted. The law was bought to distribute the lands to the rich people"
Meanwhile, sources said the first meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, witnessed a heated exchange between the BJP and opposition members over the proposed legislation's provisions.
The meeting saw a detailed presentation from officials of the Minority Affairs ministry, who elaborated on the various provisions of the bill. Representatives from the Ministry of Law and Justice were also present to provide legal perspectives on the bill.
Sources said several opposition members in the committee questioned the government's intentions and alleged that the bill has provisions that are "unconstitutional" and "detrimental to the interests" of the Muslim community. (ANI)
