Bengaluru: Unbelievable deluge leaves residents wading through waterlogged roads
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India] Aug 15 (ANI): Overnight rains in Bengaluru have resulted in severe waterlogging in many areas, especially in southern and eastern parts, as the city witnessed record breaking rains. Many citizens living in the low-lying areas including the posh Koramangala, woke up today finding their houses flooded and their streets waterlogged. The water level has risen so much that the gates of the houses are partially under water even cars parked in the porches of the houses were partially under water. Residents had to use pump sets to remove the water from their houses, while the water level has risen considerably on the roads partially sinking parked vehicles and houses. At least 17 different locations in the city recorded waterlogging. "Waterlogging in Bangalore is talking place because of land grabbing. Most of the lakes and wells are encroached by land mafias, politicians and bureaucrats. Unless and until an action against these encroachments is taken, these issues will remain the same," Janata Dal (Secular) leader Danish Ali told ANI. Reportedly, according to the Meteorological Department, the HAL station recorded 14.4 cm and the City station 12.9 cm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. Seems like the heavy rains were due to a cyclonic trough formation over the Bay of Bengal. Yesterday's, rain recorded the highest since the August 12 of 103mm. Meanwhile, city's Bellandur Lake also began to froth after the city witnessed rain. After the rains, residents are now struggling to get the muddy waters out of their houses and are furious about officials from the civic body not responding to their calls. Bengaluru witnessed traffic snarls on major arterial roads like Double Road, Shantinagar and Hosur Road because of waterlogging. Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) recorded the highest rainfall at Bilekahalli, off Bannerghatta Road, which received a rainfall of 18 cms. (ANI)
