Befitting response given to Pakistan's ceasefire violation: Defence PRO
Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], Oct. 3 (ANI): Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO) Manish Mehta confirmed the reports of a fresh round of ceasefire violation in the Poonch sector of Shahpur area which took place on Monday morning and said that a befitting response has been given to Pakistan Army. "Pakistan Army carried on unprovoked ceasefire violation in the Poonch sector in Shahpur area using small arms automatics and mortars. That has been appropriately been responded. We have given them a befitting reply and the ceasefire violation is still continuing," Mehta told ANI. Earlier today, Pakistan violated ceasefire in Shahpur along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir. Heavy mortar shelling and firing was reported from the Pakistani side in Poonch. Till now there are no reports of casualties on either side. The fresh attack comes after terrorists attacked the Indian Army and BSF camps in Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, in which a BSF personnel was killed. The terrorists attacked near a camp of the 46 Rashtriya Rifles in Baramulla, late on Sunday night. Around three-four terrorists, tried to enter the camp through a public park near it, but failed to breach the security. Senior Superintendent of Police Imtiaz Hussain claimed that the security forces could not retaliate in a heavy manner fearing civilian casualties. "There is a lot of civilian population around the camps, which is why the security forces were not able to respond in a heavy manner. Otherwise there would have been a lot of civilian casualties. Taking advantage of the dark and using civilians as shield, the terrorists ran off," Hussain said. Earlier, Pakistan targeted Indian posts along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Akhnoor tehsil late Sunday evening. Pakistan has stepped up cross-border firing after the Indian Army conducted surgical strikes on terror launch pads in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). (ANI)
