New Delhi [India], October 3 (ANI): The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on Thursday condemned BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi for levelling "baseless" allegations against the Congress regarding the Rs 5,600 crore drug bust in the national capital.
"Sudhanshu Trivedi's claims are baseless and misleading just to influence Haryana elections," claimed the IYC.
"The Indian Youth Congress strongly condemns the baseless allegations made by Dr Sudhanshu Trivedi during a recent press conference. He falsely claimed that Tushar Goel, the alleged kingpin of a Rs 5,600 crore drug bust in Delhi, is the alleged Chairman of the Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress RTI Cell," said an official release from the IYC.
"Tushar Goel was expelled from the organisation on October 17, 2022, due to anti-party activities and has not been associated with us in any capacity since then. In fact, as per media reports, Tushar Goel himself confessed to police that he was a former chairman of Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress RTI Cell in 2021-22 but left the organisation afterwards. It's clear that BJP is attempting to tarnish the image of the Congress party and its leaders using false information," said the release.
The release further said, "Rather than spreading half-baked political stories, the BJP should trust the Delhi Police to investigate and uncover the truth. We urge the Delhi Police to take strict action against those arrested in the alleged drug bust, rather than allowing it to become a vicious political campaign."
Stating key facts, the party release said, "Tushar Goel's Expulsion--Removed from Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress RTI Cell on October 17, 2022. No Current Association--Tushar Goel has not been associated with the Indian Youth Congress or Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress since his expulsion in 2022, False Allegations--Sudhanshu Trivedi's claims are baseless and misleading just to influence Haryana elections."
The IYC further said, "We stand by the truth and demand an end to BJP's malicious attempts to defame our organisation."
This comes after BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi on Thursday attacked the Congress party over the alleged involvement of former RTI Cell chairman of the Delhi Pradesh Congress in the Rs 5,600 crore drug syndicate and described it as a serious issue.
Alleging the party's links with the recent drug haul, Trivedi said Rahul Gandhi's 'Mohabbat ki Dukan' now not only contains elements of hatred but also products related to intoxication.
BJP leader Trivedi said, "Ye ek bahut gambhir baat hai, isse ab ye saaf ho rahi hai ki Rahul Gandhi ke Mohabbat ki Dukan mai abhi tak nafrat ke saaman toh dikh rahe hai, ab nashe ka saman bhi milne laga hai."
Earlier, an investigation showed that the mastermind of the Rs 5600 crore cocaine shipment allegedly had Congress connections, Delhi police said.
Mastermind and main accused, Tushar Goyal claimed he was the Chairman of the RTI Cell of the Delhi Pradesh Congress in 2021 but left after some time. Delhi police is investigating his claim. Police are also trying to find photos of the accused for this period.
Tushar Goyal himself revealed during the Special Cell's interrogation that he was the head of the Congress Delhi RTI Cell. The seizure links have also been found connected to Dubai, police said. Delhi police said that the name of a big businessman from Dubai, who is a major supplier of cocaine, came up during the Special Cell's investigation.
Earlier after the Delhi Police busted an international drug syndicate and seized more than 560 kg of cocaine in the national capital on Wednesday, Pramod Singh Kushwaha, Additional Commissioner of Police Special Cell, said that it is the biggest cocaine haul in recent times.
Four people have also been arrested in connection with the case. Additional CP Kushwaha said that 15 kg of cocaine was recovered from the personal possession of the accused, Tushar Goyal, Himanshu, and Aurangzeb, while the remaining marijuana and cocaine were found in the godown.
"Around 15 kg of cocaine was recovered from the personal possession of Tushar Goyal, Himanshu, and Aurangzeb. They were caught when they were coming out of the godown in Mahipalpur Extension to give the supply to the receiver. Remaining marijuana and cocaine were found in the godown,. Tushar Goyal is a resident of Vasant Vihar in Delhi while Himanshu and Aurangzeb are his two associates. Bharat Jain, a receiver from Kurla West (Mumbai), has also been caught," he said.
"The forward and backward linkages point to a Middle Eastern country--a major handler can be seen. This is the biggest cocaine haul in recent times," Additional CP Kushwaha added. (ANI)
