Bangladeshi woman's dead body to be finally repatriated

South Dinajpur (West Bengal) [India], Feb. 17 (ANI): The body of Bangladeshi national Konika Rani Sarkar (43) will finally be repatriated after being stuck in India for the last four days due to address problem in her death certificate issued by the Malda Medical College and Hospital. It is reported that Konika and her son Tokon came to India on December 26 last year through Hilly immigration check post under South Dinajpur district of West-Bengal as the former needed to take treatment at Vellore in Tamil Nadu. The doctors advised Konika for an immediate heart operation but due to money crunch Tokon had to leave her mother at their relative's place in South Dinajpur and go back to Bangladesh to arrange the money. During this time, Konika's condition became critical and she was admitted to the Malda Medical College where she died. Following the death, the hospital authorities issued a death certificate with a local address which the relative's had mentioned in the hospital forms. As the death certificate had a local address, Hilly Customs department denied Tokon the permission to take back his mother's dead body to Bangladesh. Later, Tokon met with the district administration for help and he finally secured all arrangements and documents to take the body. "The woman had a valid passport but the son could not take the body to Bangladesh because of lack of some formalities. But now we have made all arrangements and sent him to Kolkata with all letters and formalities so that he can get the permit to take his mother's body," Sanjoy Basu, DM, Dakshin Dinajpur, told ANI.
