Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], September 30 (ANI): After the Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee announced that a two-day protest will be held by TMC in the national capital on October 2-3, West Bengal BJP General Secretary Agnimitra Paul on Friday called his family a drama company.
Agnimitra Paul said that such protests will not help TMC MP escape the ongoing Enforcement Directorate investigation.
Speaking to ANI, Agnimitra Paul said, "Banerjee family is anyway a drama company. They are experts in theatrics. But this will not help. He (Abhishek Banerjee) will have to give an explanation (to ED)."
BJP leader Paul further stated that TMC MP Banerjee thinks highly of himself and should behave like an ordinary citizen.
"He says 'Stop me if you can'.Why does he think that he is very important? Who is he? Just an MP. He should not think highly of himself. He is an ordinary citizen," she said.
The TMC is scheduled to hold a mega protest at Delhi's Raj Ghat on October 2 and 3, against the central government for delay in release of funds to West Bengal.
Abhishek Banerjee said that the fight against the deprivation of West Bengal by the Centre will continue and he will be joining the protests in Delhi on Oct 2.
Banerjee has been under the radar of ED. He was summoned by the ED in connection with the alleged teacher recruitment scam in September. The day coincided with the opposition INDIA bloc's first Coordination Committee meeting in Delhi.
Abhishek, being a member of the INDIA Coordination Committee had to skip the meeting owing to his summon at the ED's Kolkata office.
Following his questioning last time, Banerjee said, "I have done my duty, I have come to the ED office, joined the investigation, faced the questions, answered to the best of my abilities to the questions that were asked to me."
The summons to Banerjee came weeks after the central probe agency conducted raids in the office of 'Leaps and Bounds Pvt Ltd' which the federal agency alleged was "used for making dubious transactions running into crores of rupees." The ED claimed that Banerjee is the chief executive officer of the company. (ANI)
