Bandyopadhyay's wife cries foul, says not informed of arrest
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], Jan. 4 (ANI): A day after Trinamool Congress MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Rose Valley chit-fund scam, his wife Nayna on Wednesday registered a complaint alleging that she was not informed of the same. In her complaint registered in Bidhan Nagar, Nayna also alleged that none of the family members were informed as to where Bandyopadhyay is being taken. Meanwhile, Bandyopadhyay's lawyer Rajdeep Majumdar said the allegations levelled against the TMC MP are totally baseless. "So far as Mr Bandyopadhyay is concerned, there's no evidence. He will be produced in court after 12. We will seek his bail. He has some health-related issues. So, we will produce medical documents," he added. Bandyopadhyay's arrest has unleashed intense clash between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and TMC workers in various parts of West Bengal. Bengal BJP leader Krishna Bhattacharya's house was allegedly attacked last night by the TMC workers protesting against Bandyopadhyay's arrest. The police have registered a case in this regard. Stones were pelted at the BJP headquarters in Kolkata, leaving several of its workers injured. Bandyopadhyay was arrested yesterday hours after he appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for interrogation in connection with this scam. Soon after his arrest yesterday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee trained her guns at Prime Minister Modi and BJP president Amit Shah. She alleged that it was a ploy by the BJP-led Centre facing opposition post demonetisation. Mamata said that she would fight the battle legally and seek justice from the court. (ANI)

TMC's jibe at Centre amid LPG crisis due to West Asia conflict

In an 'X' post, TMC said the government has "ek hi naara, line mein rahe desh bechara," pointing to past governmental measures including demonetisation, the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, the Special Identification Registration (SIR), and now the LPG shortage. The party described demonetisation as a "Tughlaqi farman" that forced ordinary citizens to wait in serpentine queues outside banks and ATMs for days to access their own money. The post also highlighted the 2020 COVID-19 oxygen crisis, when families stood in long lines outside hospitals and suppliers as the public health system collapsed.
