Attempt to replace Governor, a precursor to imposing President's Rule in J-K: Chavan

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], Aug. 29 (ANI): Alleging that Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is completely clueless and Prime Minister Narendra Modi appears helpless with regard to the situation in the Kashmir Valley, former All-India Congress Committee (AICC) J-K in charge Prithviraj Chavan on Monday claimed that there is now an attempt to replace Governor N.N. Vohra, and this perhaps could be a precursor to either bringing in a governor whom the BJP trusts politically, or perhaps impose president's rule in the state.

"The chief minister is shuttling between Srinagar and Delhi. The chief minister is completely clueless and the Prime Minister appears helpless. The Home Minister (Rajnath Singh) has made some trips to Srinagar, but there doesn't seem to be any reprieve, as the situation is not improving. Now, there is an attempt to replace the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir so that they blame it on the Governor, and perhaps, it is a precursor to bring a governor whom the BJP trusts politically, or a political person, so that they could perhaps bring president's rule in the state,' the former Maharashtra chief minister told ANI. He added,"It is also a precursor to the popular government being dismissed, because the popular government in Jammu and Kashmir has failed completely to control the situation". On the Prime Minister Modi's monthly radio talk 'Maan Ki Baat', Chavan said, "He (PM) has expressed concerns and regrets over the loss of lives in Kashmir, but, I think, he failed to admit that it is the alliance between the PDP and BJP, which has failed to administer the state and has lost control of the state. Due to wrong policies of the central government, so many innocent lives have been lost and the state government now appears to be losing control completely." Expressing regret and remorse over the loss of lives in the Kashmir Valley, Prime Minister Modi on Sunday said, "Any life lost in Kashmir, whether of any youth or any security personnel, is our own loss. Those who are trying to disrupt peace in Kashmir by instigating innocent young children, they will have to reply to these young children." The Prime Minister also said that all political parties need to put forward their views on the prevailing situation in the Kashmir Valley in one voice. "'Ekta' (unity) and 'Mamata' (affection) was the crux of all interactions I had recently on Kashmir situation," he said. As former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah lauded Prime Minister Modi for taking up the Kashmir situation in his radio address, Chavan said, "Omar Abdullah has come on television and said so many things about the situation in Kashmir. He also welcomed the fact that the Prime Minister 'for a change has talked about deaths in Jammu and Kashmir in his monthly radio talk." "It is clear that the PDP-BJP government of Jammu and Kashmir has failed completely to control the situation, which unnecessarily has gone out of control," he added. (ANI)
