Attack on Babul Supriyo: BJP leadership to chalk out next course of action
Kolkata [India], Oct. 20 (ANI): Condemning the baton charge on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers by Police, who were protesting against a recent TMC attack on Union Minister Babul Supriyo in Asansol, actor-turned-politician Roopa Ganguly on Thursday said that they would talk to the their party leadership to chalk out next course of action. Ganguly told the media that many BJP workers, including women, were injured in the attack. "The way they raised their hands on Babul and in the same way they disturbed our rally and beat us up. Some of our workers got their heads injured. Women were also hurt and women police attacked me on my back," Ganguly said. "Next course of action- We will talk to our leadership and will decide accordingly," she added. Ganguly further accused the Trinamool Government of planning everything. "In Bengal, if a Union Minister's car can be thrashed, bricks and stones are thrown at her, then what are we here? We are nothing. They are trying to threaten us, but the most difficult thing is that people are seeing everything and the way we are being threatened. We were doing peaceful agitation. We have a right to protest," she said. Earlier during the day, Police resorted to a baton charge on Bharatiya Janata Party workers protesting against a recent TMC attack on Supriyo in Asansol. "They baton charged us for no reason. The police behaved really bad with us," said one angry protester. Supriyo was attacked on Tuesday with brick stones allegedly by TMC workers in Asanol when he was on his way to police station to protest against arrest of some Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers. On his official Twitter account, Supriyo accused TMC Minister Malay Ghatak of "scheming" the attack. "TMC MIN Malay Ghatak's goons inflicted this injury on my 'chest'' with a solid brick thrown 'FROM A DISTANCE"-Cowards (sic)," he said. A video footage of the incident that has surfaced shows a violent mob attacking Supriyo's convoy. During the scuffle, one BJP party worker was thrashed and his clothes were ripped off. The mob pelted stones and thrashed party workers in the presence of police officials. "Someone caught this moment on camera!!!!! That big a stone thrown from a distance-COWARDs! I don't back off in front of goons of Malay Ghatak," he tweeted. (ANI)
