Atrocities against dalits escalating since BJP rule: Mayawati
New Delhi, July 26 (ANI): Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Tuesday alleged that the incidents of atrocities against dalits and crime against women are on the rise ever since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came into power at the Centre and different states. Referring to such incidents reported in Haryana, she said on the one hand the BJP talks about 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao', while on the other hand the women are feeling unsafe in its rule. "Since the BJP-led government came to power in the Centre, there is atrocity against the dalits at all levels. Not only this, the women are also not safe, especially in Delhi. The condition is worse in the BJP-ruled states. Haryana is not much far from Delhi and there is BJP Government there. The BJP had started the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' campaign, but there is maximum number of exploitation there," Mayawati told media outside Parliament. Asserting that the women in Haryana are not safe, the BSP chief alleged that the BJP did not take any action which proved that it has a dual mindset and policy for the women of Uttar Pradesh and for the women outside the state. Mayawati also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence over the Una dalit atrocities incident in Gujarat. "I regard the thoughts of the Gujarati writer who has decided to return his award in view of the Una incident. It proves that till now the Dalit people have not got justice there. So our party supports his decision. The Prime Minister should break his silence on the Una incident and action should be taken against the culprits," she added. Home Minister Rajnath Singh earlier on Thursday condemned the recent thrashing of Dalits by a cow vigilante group in Una that led to violent protests in several parts of Gujarat and said such incidents must not be repeated. "What happened in Gujarat is highly condemnable and such incidents must not be repeated," said Singh while speaking in Rajya Sabha. He assured that the government is taking strict action against those involved in the incident. "16 people have been arrested in connection with Una incident, 4 police officials have been suspended," said Singh adding that the case has been handed over to CID crime branch. (ANI)

In an 'X' post, TMC said the government has "ek hi naara, line mein rahe desh bechara," pointing to past governmental measures including demonetisation, the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, the Special Identification Registration (SIR), and now the LPG shortage. The party described demonetisation as a "Tughlaqi farman" that forced ordinary citizens to wait in serpentine queues outside banks and ATMs for days to access their own money. The post also highlighted the 2020 COVID-19 oxygen crisis, when families stood in long lines outside hospitals and suppliers as the public health system collapsed.
