Assam: "Taking responsibility of defeat" in Lok Sabha polls AIUDF's Aminul Islam quits party

In a major setback to All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) after its defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, party's general secretary, Aminul Islam, tendered his resignation on Monday.

Guwahati (Assam) [India], June 11 (ANI): In a major setback to All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) after its defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, party's general secretary, Aminul Islam has tendered his resignation.
Aminul Islam, serving as the MLA representing Mankachar assembly constituency, told ANI on Monday that he takes responsibility for the party's poll defeat in Assam.
"By taking responsibility for defeat of the party candidates in the Lok Sabha polls, I resign from all party posts," he said.
In the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls, AIUDF had contested in three seats - Dhubri, Nagaon and Karimganj and the party lost all three seats.
AIDUF supremo Badruddin Ajmal contested from Dhubri, Aminul Islam from Nagaon and Sahabul Islam Choudhury from Karimganj.
Dhubri has been AIDUF's stronghold since the year 2009.
Ajmal lost the seat to Congress' Rakibul Hussain by over 10 lakh votes.
According to Election Commission of India figures, BJP won nine seats, Congress won three, BJP's allies Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United Peoples' Party, Liberal (UPPL) got one each out of the total 14 seats Lok Sabha seats in Assam.
The voting was held in three phases in Assam on April 19, April 26 and May 7 across the 14 constituencies namely Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Kaziranga, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Diphu, Darrang-Udalguri, Karinganj, Silchar, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, Dhubri and Guwahati. (ANI)
