Assam Govt.`s new `population` law not a `well thought-out policy`: Cong
New Delhi[India], Apr. 10 (ANI): Criticizing the Assam Government's new law for curbing population growth, the Congress Party on Monday said it is not a 'well thought-out policy' while asserting that the issue should be discussed in the parliamentary forum for consensus. "Any such law can be enacted on the basis of consensus. Something which is not discussed in any forum of any political party or in the government or in the Parliament is not a well thought-out policy. So, we feel that it should be discussed in the parliamentary forum and consensus is to be evolved on such issues," Congress leader P.C. Chacko told ANI. In a bid to check the increasing population, the Assam Government on Sunday declared that people marrying before attaining the legal age for matrimony and couples having more than two children will not be eligible for the state government jobs. "Anyone having more than two children, marrying before attaining legal age won't be eligible for Assam Government jobs under the new population policy," said Assam's Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Assam while unveiling the details of the policy's draft.
