Guwahati (Assam) [India], August 24 (ANI): The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday demanded the arrest of Jamiat leader Madani for "insulting" Assamese self-respect.
"The BJP government under the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma has been continuously carrying out eviction drives to clear illegal encroachers--primarily people of East Bengal-origin Muslims--from forest lands and government property. Linking these eviction drives with the incidents of Gaza and Palestine, Mahmood Madani has attacked the self-respect of the Assamese people," the Assam BJP said in a release.
It also stated that the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind leader, Mahmood Madani, has attempted to view Assam's problems only through the lens of the Muslim community.
Assam BJP spokesperson Jayanta Kumar Goswami demanded that Assam Police immediately arrest Jamiat leader Mahmood Madani for his anti-Assam remarks and ensure appropriate punishment. "At present, infiltrators and outsiders are attempting in every possible way to dominate all sectors of Assam. With the patronage of the previous Congress governments, these groups illegally occupied government lands, forests, and other resources, thereby creating threats in Assam's social, political, cultural, and economic life and endangering the very existence of indigenous Assamese Hindus, Muslims, and Indian-origin common people," Goswami said.
He further said that the Bharatiya Janata Party government, under the strong leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has taken firm steps to resist this aggression. "Through eviction drives, the government is removing encroachers from public lands, deleting the names of infiltrators from indigenous-dominated areas, and working to safeguard the political rights of the indigenous people," he said.
The State BJP spokesperson warned that if in the future a government is formed in Assam with the support of Congress, AIUDF, Raijor Dal, and Asom Jatiya Parishad, then Maulana Arshad Madani and Maulana Mahmood Madani will become political advisors to the Assam government, leading to the complete dominance of infiltrators over the indigenous Assamese Hindus, Muslims, and Indian-origin citizens.
The spokesperson also remarked that the "Madani culture" was first introduced to Assam by Congress, and later during the NRC process by left-leaning intellectual Hiren Gohain.
He strongly criticised Congress, its allies AIUDF, Raijor Dal, and Asom Jatiya Parishad, along with a section of leftist intellectuals, for their role in encouraging this trend. (ANI)
