Jhargram (West Bengal) [India], May 25 (ANI): A major incident of poll violence was witnessed in the constituency of Jhargram during the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Saturday. BJP candidate from the area Pranat Tudu was allegedly attacked by miscreants in Garbeta while visiting booth number 200 in Monglapota.
"We got information yesterday that BJP voters in Monglapota are not being allowed to vote. Due to this, we came to this area to check what was the problem. Here around 200 people attacked us with lathis, stones and some weapons. We could have been murdered if Central forces would not have been there...We did not get any protection from the local police...Didi doesn't want to impose CAA and make the country into Pakistan," said Pranat Tudu.
Several others were also injured in the incident. Tudu further alleged that TMC are frightened of impending defeat so they are trying to keep BJP supporters away from the booth.
"We informed the DM, but no security arrangements were made. CISF jawans have received severe injuries on the head and I have been hit on the head. The window panes of our vehicle have been damaged. We have come to file FIR and reported to EC. If TMC feels we are frightened then they are wrong. They know that they will get defeated so they are trying to keep BJP supporters away from the booth. They are doing the same in many booths," he added.
He alleged that CM Mamata Banerjee was trying to create a Sandeshkhali-like situation in the entire Bengal.
"If BJP does not come to power then Bengal will become Rohingya and Pakistan. TMC is spreading the false narrative that they have been attacked since CISF was creating trouble," he added.
In Jhargram Lok Sabha constituency BJP candidate Pranat Tudu is contesting against TMC candidate Kalipada Saren Kherwal and CPI (M) candidate Sonamani Tudu.
The sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections for 58 parliamentary constituencies saw a cumulative voter turnout of 57.7 per cent till 5 pm, as per the data shared by the Election Commission on Saturday.
According to the poll body, West Bengal recorded the highest voter turnout (77.99 per cent) followed by Jharkhand (61.41 per cent), Uttar Pradesh (52.02 per cent), Odisha (59.60 per cent), Jammu and Kashmir (51.35 per cent), Bihar (52.24 per cent), Haryana (55.93 per cent), and Delhi (53.73 per cent).
