Vizag (Andhra Pradesh) [India], Mar 31 (ANI): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday claimed the BJP will not get more than 125 seats in the Lok Sabha elections and hence would not be able to form the government at the Centre.
“Going by the total calculation out of 543 seats, Narendra Modi will not get more than 125 seats,” said Mamata Banerjee, while addressing an election meeting organised by the TDP here.
“You know the arithmetic says that in 2014 when there was Modi wave in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Odisha, and West Bengal, the BJP got 21 seats out of 191 seats,” she said.
“Out of 21, 17 were alone from Karnataka,” said Mamata Banerjee. “This time that too has gone from their hands. They are not going to get that many seats. They are not going to get a single seat in West Bengal. What they have in Karnataka will also go. In Odisha also they will hardly get any seat, and they are not going to get any seat in Andhra Pradesh,” she said.
She said that in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP and allies will not get more than 15-20seats as the SP, the BSP, and the RLD are in alliance.
“In 2014, you get 73 seats out of 80 in UP. That time Akhilesh Yadav, Mayawati and others fought separately. Now Akhilesh, Mayawati, and RLD are in an alliance and total vote share is 44 per cent. When the BJP won in 2014 in UP, the party had only 42 per cent vote share. This time BJP will not get more than 15-20 seats in UP,” said Mamata.
She said that in other states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, the BJP will perform very poorly.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who also spoke on the occasion, said that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi comes to power again, he will change the Constitution and will do away with the system of General Elections in the country.
“BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj himself said while requesting the people to vote for the BJP that there will be no elections if the BJP comes to power. BJP president Amit Shah himself said in Jaipur rally that if the BJP wins the 2019 elections, then nobody would be able to defeat BJP till 2050.  What does that mean,” he said.
Kejriwal also raked up the issue of full statehood for Delhi, saying that he supports special status for Andhra Pradesh.
“Even after 70 years of Independence, Delhi is still a half-state. We cannot open our own schools, colleges, and so on. The people of Andhra Pradesh have been demanding special status for long but PM Modi has betrayed you,” said Kejriwal.
The election to 175-member Andhra Pradesh Assembly is scheduled to be held on April 11 along with the Lok Sabha polls. The counting of votes will take place on May 23. (ANI)
