Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], March 20 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma on Thursday accused National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah and his party as well as the Congress party of opposing the right of outsiders to buy land in Jammu and Kashmir asserting that land ownership should be equal for all Indians.
"If a Kashmiri can buy land in Maharashtra, why can't a Maharashtrian buy land in Kashmir? If Kashmiri can buy land in Haryana, why can't the people of Haryana buy land in Jammu and Kashmir? India is unbreakable. It was treated as a State within a State... The National Conference had embraced the idea of the two-nation theory- Jinnah's theory. There is one Constitution, one sign, and one identity, as per the slogan of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. This will not happen," the BJP leader said.
Targeting the National Conference, Sharma further stated, "Are you looking for a different status based on your religion over here? Should the entire Constitution of India not be implemented here just because there is a Muslim majority? ...We will not let this happen."
This comes after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah earlier today speaking in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly stressed the importance of preserving land amid growing population pressure. "Our future is tied with our land; if we don't have land, we will be nothing, but slowly this is in danger. With the increase in population, there is pressure on land, agricultural land has been converted to other purposes this will lead to our more dependence on others," Abdullah said.
The CM had also spoken about revised MLA salaries, power amnesty and the revival of the Roshni scheme and also on giving importance to the State's heritage. (ANI)
