Appointing 'extremist' Yogi not in favour of nation: Congress
New Delhi [India], Mar. 20 (ANI): Labelling the newly-elected Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as an 'extremist,' the Congress party said that the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) decision is not in favour of the nation. Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that a person (Adityanath) who does not believe in the constitution, social justice, freedom of expression, freedom of religion but only in his ideology can never turn out to be favourable for the nation. "His image and the statements that he has made in parliament, his ideologies that he has presented make it clear that he is an extremist," Kharge told ANI. "The party has chosen him and we would congratulate him. But this choice of BJP is not in favour of the nation," he added. Resonating the same, another Congress leader Rajeev Shukla said it would be a challenge for the new government to fulfill the promises made by them during the elections. "They should fulfill their promises. Law and order will have to be improved," he told ANI. Yogi Adityanath was sworn-in as the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister yesterday. Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma took oath as deputy chief ministers of the state. In the recently held polls in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP had bagged 312 seats, and its allies 13, taking the alliance's tally to 325 in the 403-member Assembly. (ANI)
