Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], December 5 (ANI): Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Chief Raj Thackeray on Thursday congratulated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis on taking oath as Maharashtra Chief Minister for the third time.
"Today my friend and leader of Bharatiya Janata Party in Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis took oath as Chief Minister for the third time, Congratulations to him," he posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Raj Thackeray remarked that Fadnavis should have been given this opportunity in 2019 but circumstances prevented that from happening.
"They really should have had this opportunity in 2019, but what happened then and later in 2022, missed that opportunity. Anyway, but this time, I hope you will use the incredible majority that the people of Maharashtra have given to the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis for the sake of this state, for the Marathi people here and for the Marathi language and culture," he said.
The MNS chief extended his party's support to the Fadnavis-led government, and said, "For the next 5 years, any good initiative of the government will be supported by me and my party."
"But if we feel that the government is making mistakes, people are taking them for granted, even if it is not possible in the legislature, we will definitely make the government aware of their mistakes outside the legislature," he added.
Raj Thackeray also extended his best wishes to Shiv Sena leader and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, NCP chief Ajit Pawar, and all other future cabinet colleagues.
"Maharashtra Navnirman Sena's best wishes to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar and to all their future cabinet colleagues!" Raj Thackeray said.
Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the newly formed Mahayuti government. Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar also took their oaths as Deputy Chief Ministers of Maharashtra on Thursday.
Devendra Fadnavis previously served as Maharashtra chief minister from 2014-19 and as Deputy CM under the recent Mahayuti government.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by several prominent leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and several others.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami along with others were also present at the event.
Prominent celebrities, including cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, and Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Ranveer Singh, and Madhuri Dixit, were among those in attendance.
The Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024 witnessed a decisive victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Mahayuti alliance, securing a landslide win with 235 seats. The results marked a significant milestone for the BJP, which emerged as the single-largest party with 132 seats.
The Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party also made notable gains, with 57 and 41 seats, respectively.
While, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) suffered a major setback with Congress winning just 16 seats. Its alliance partner, Shiv Sena (UBT), won 20 seats, while the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) secured only 10 seats. (ANI)
