New Delhi [India], January 7 (ANI): As the Election Commission of India (ECI) gears up to announce the dates for the upcoming 2025 Delhi assembly elections, Congress leader Alka Lamba on Tuesday said that there was anti-incumbency against the central government and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in the national capital.
She said that people have witnessed the governance for a decade and they have compared the works done under former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and others who followed. People will vote for Congress this time, Lamba added.
"There is anti-incumbency against the central as well as Delhi government. People are comparing the works done by different governments. For 15 years, Sheila Dikshit was governing. Kejriwal got a chance for three terms. People have analysed 10 years of this rule and they will vote for Congress this time," Lamba, who is a Congress candidate from the Kalkaji Assembly constituency, told ANI.
Taking a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress leader said they don't have any agenda and only know to fight elections in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"We have declared candidates on 48 seats while BJP doesn't even know its full candidates. They don't even have an agenda. They only fight in the name of the Prime Minister. On the other hand, the entire AAP government had to go to jail and let go of their portfolios. Now, the current Chief Minister is being called TCM (temporary Chief Minister)," Lamba said.
"Delhi is more ready for the elections than any party or leader. The people of Delhi are keen to have the elections because they are waiting for change, which is going to start with the declaration of (poll) dates. People are looking for an alternative and that is Congress," she added.
Taking a swipe at AAP over the remarks made by Kejriwal earlier that Atishi was a "temporary Chief Minister," Lamba said that the issues of Delhi have become permanent and can only be resolved through a permanent Chief Minister.
"Delhi's issues have become permanent now - from air and water pollution to crime and inflation in the city. Permanent problems require permanent solutions through a permanent Chief Minister. Congress has given the solutions," Lamba said.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) will host a press conference today to announce the schedule for the General Election to the Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi. The press briefing is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM at the Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
The Commission has invited media personnel from across the country to attend the event, which will provide the much-awaited details regarding the election dates and other logistical aspects of the Delhi assembly elections.
In the 2020 assembly elections in Delhi, AAP won 62 out of the 70 seats while the BJP secured merely eight seats. Congress had won zero seats. (ANI)
