Anandiben's resignation a 'drama' to cover up failures: JD (U)

New Delhi, Aug.2 (ANI): Dubbing the resignation of Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel as a 'drama' by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to hide its failures, the Janata Dal (United) on Tuesday said the state government has miserably failed to keep law and order situation in check. "Gujarat is already reeling under the Patidar agitation, law and order situation has failed. The Dalits have started a movement now and the government is not capable of handling it. There is anarchy there. To hide these failures, this resignation drama is being played out," JD (U) leader K.C. Tyagi told ANI. The Congress party had yesterday rubbished Patel's 'age' reason behind her resignation and said that the recent Dalit outrage in the state has pushed the latter to step down from the coveted post. Congress leader Renuka Chowdhary said, "It is very sudden, she is talking of her age out of the blue. I don't think that age factor is the reason behind her resignation. I think she has tendered her resignation because of the recent Dalit outrage in the state." "She is just trying to evade the damage. Lets us see what does Prime Minister Narendra Modi has to say in this regard, will he accept her resignation or not?" he added. Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying it was his 13-year rule in the state and not his successor's two-year governance that was responsible for the terrible condition of the state, which was now embroiled in cases of atrocities against Dalits. Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that his Gujarat's counterpart Anandiben Patel stepped down because of the growing popularity of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the state. Patel on Monday submitted her resignation to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) top brass asserting that the saffron party needs a fresh face in the state. Patel, who took charge as Gujarat's first woman chief minister after Narendra Modi took charge as the Prime Minister, citing age issues had in her Facebook post earlier urged the BJP to relieve her from the coveted post. Patel said that she had two months earlier sought to resign from the party to give "enough time to the new incumbent to prepare for important events like the upcoming 'Vibrant Gujarat Summit'. (ANI)
