"Allow people to correct Telangana caste census": BRS MLC K Kavitha challenges Rahul Gandhi

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], July 26 (ANI): Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha on Saturday challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to ensure transparency and allow corrections in the Telangana caste census if he is genuinely committed to OBC empowerment.
Responding to Rahul Gandhi's public apology for not conducting a caste-based census during the UPA regime, Kavitha termed the remarks as "insufficient" and questioned Congress' missed opportunities during its decades in power.
"Yesterday, Rahul Gandhi apologised to the nation and claimed that when Congress was in power, they could not conduct the caste census. It is unfortunate that, over the last 75 years of independence, the majority of the time, the Congress party was in power. What will you say about the missed opportunities for the OBCs? What will you say to those students who could not go to the colleges they wanted to?" the BRS MLC told ANI.
Challenging the Congress leader, she called for an open correction of any discrepancies in the Telangana caste survey of 2024.
"A simple apology won't do anything, I challenge Rahul Gandhi: if his apology to the OBC is genuine, if you are sincere about the OBC empowerment. The Telangana OBC caste census conducted here, you have a chance to wash your sins, kindly display all the details village-wise. If there is any discrepancy, give people the opportunity to correct it," she said.
The BRS leader added that unless corrections are made, the Congress' claims about setting a national model with Telangana's survey would not hold.
"If you are saying that your caste census is an X-ray of Telangana and the nation, then you better do a proper one. Without correcting discrepancies, Telangana, if you want to show this model across India, people will not believe you," she added.
Issuing a warning to the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition, the BRS MLC said that the 'adamant' people of the state would campaign against Gandhi in Bihar and across the nation to "expose his lies."
On July 25, while speaking at the 'Bhagidari Nyay Sammelan' of OBC at Talkatora Stadium in Delhi, the Congress leader acknowledged that not conducting a caste census during the UPA government was a mistake, and said he is now determined to correct it.
"The problems of OBCs remain hidden. If I had known about your issues and problems at that time, I would have conducted a caste-based census right then. That was my mistake, which I am going to correct," the LS LoP said during the event.
He said that he had failed to understand the issues of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community earlier, unlike those of Dalits, tribals, and women, where he claimed the Congress had done commendable work. (ANI)
