Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], Mar 23 (ANI): Mamata Banerjee-led All India Trinamool Congress on Saturday rejected media reports on dropping ‘Congress’ from the party’s name.
“Name of the party, as registered with Election Commission is 'All India Trinamool Congress'. Name and symbol (flowers and grass) was approved by EC on January 1, 1998,” read a statement issued by the party.
Several media reports suggested that AITC had dropped ‘Congress’ from its logo, banners and posters, and would hereby be referred to as 'Trinamool', just weeks ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Trinamool Congress was established on January 1, 1998, after a fallout with the Congress party at the beginning of the 12th Lok Sabha by Mamata to "raise her voice against the barbaric rule of the Communist Party of India (Marxist)," the AITC website notes.  (ANI)
