Agra gears up for traditional Ram Barat festival

Agra (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Sept. 29 (ANI): The Janakpuri festival, which is one of the biggest annual events in northern India, kickstarted on Thursday with a Ram Barat (wedding procession) in the wee hours, and after travessing the entire city, it will head for Janakpuri.

Agra (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Sept. 29 (ANI): The Janakpuri festival, which is one of the biggest annual events in northern India, kickstarted on Thursday with a Ram Barat (wedding procession) in the wee hours, and after travessing the entire city, it will head for Janakpuri. Janak Mahal's magnificent makeover is a visual treat for the people. Besides Agra, lakhs of devotees from several other states will take part in the celebration that marks the wedding of Ayodhya Prince Ram with Janakpuri Princess Sita. It is said that Prince Ram was the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, while Princess Sita was the incarnation of his celestial consort Goddess Lakshmi. In Agra, the festivities last for three days. (ANI)
