ABVP, AISA's 'goondagardi' won't be tolerated: Congress
New Delhi [India], Feb 28 (ANI): Expressing his concern over the scuffle that took place at Ramjas College, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala today slammed members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the All India Students Association (AISA), describing them lumpen elements who will not be tolerated. "The truth is that Modi government is now putting 'zubaanbandi' after 'notebandi'. That means an embargo on speech on 'Soochbandi' where one will have no right to speak and think. The day is near BJP will say that you have no right to live in the country. Only if you abide to the norms set up by this government. Perhaps let's hope that day should not come," said Surjewala. "Important issue is that, here is a 20-year-old girl who dares to oppose the 'gundagardi' of the ABVP and the result is that she is threatened with rape, murder, abused and trolled. Why is anyone not standing up or fighting against the girl. Can anyone not say that they disagree with the ABVP and the BJP and 'goondaism' won't be tolerated?, added Surjewala. The 20-year-old Delhi University student, Gurmehar Kaur, had approached the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) to lodge a complaint against the alleged rape threats she received for running a social media campaign against the ABVP over the Ramjas scuffle. ABVP activists had allegedly thrashed students, AISA members and journalists during the scuffle. The Delhi Police filed an FIR on the rape threat after the DCW issued a notice to them. The FIR was registered under relevant sections of the IT Act and the IPC. The entire controversy gained momentum after last week's clash that erupted between AISA and the ABVP over cancellation of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Umar Khalid proposed talk at Delhi University's Ramjas College.(ANI)
