Kolkata (West Bengal) [India] Mar 24 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee on Sunday refuted the allegations of his wife Rujira Naroola being detained at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport here.
Banerjee, who is also the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee, said, “False allegations are being made against my wife of her being detained, receiving special assistance and moving out of the airport with 2 kg gold. These are all baseless and defamatory.”
Banerjee also hinted at sending defamation notices to those circulating the news which he claimed had no basis.
“We will file a civil and criminal defamation suit against the organisations including portals, who have filed this story which has no truth,” he told media persons.
Claiming that he is open to inquiry, the TMC MP said: “Show CCTV footage that proves my wife received any special assistance and I will leave politics.”
“The FIR to be filed has been enclosed. This is as per the instructions of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC)” he added.
Questioning the reason behind the controversy, Banerjee said: “Is it because I have filed a criminal case against Amit Shah? Today you are targeting my wife. Tomorrow you will target my 5-year-old child. If you have guts, come arrest me and fight me politically.”
Soon after the CBI-Kolkata Police standoff that made headlines, the wife of Abhishek Banerjee on March 15 was held for allegedly carrying gold without declaration and later was let off after the Kolkata Police intervened. (ANI)
