"AAP wants to buy votes by distributing liquor": BJP candidate Satish Upadhyay

"The way a vehicle with a Punjab registration and in front of Punjab Bhavan had liquor, it is really clear what kind of election they (AAP) wants to have. They (AAP) want to buy the votes of the public by distributing liquor and this is the culture of AAP , the way they wanted to make Delhi a liquor city, the same way they are influencing people. There cannot be anything more shameful than that," the candidate said in a self-made video.

New Delhi [India], January 30 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Malviya Nagar assembly constituency Satish Upadhyay hit out at AAP, alleging that Delhi's ruling party has a culture of buying votes by distributing liquor.
The BJP candidate was reacting to Delhi police seizing cash and liquor worth lakhs from a car parked near Punjab Bhavan on Wednesday, which had AAP pamphlets, a Punjab number plate and having 'Punjab sarkar' written on it. However, Punjab's transport department has issued a clarification that the vehicle's registration number is "forged and fake."
A statement released by Punjab's transportation department read, "As per official record, it is found that the vehicle is registered in the name of Maj. Anubhav Shivpuri who was posted in Army Dental College, Pathankot 3 years back and is a permanent resident of Khadki, Maharshtra. Moreover, the registered vehicle model on the registration number PB35AE1342 is Ford Eco Sport of make year 2018 but the actual vehicle apprehended by the police belongs to Hyundai Creta series. This confirms that the vehicles number plate is forged and fake."
The department's statement further refuted any allegation to being connected to state government, "We have searched our records and found that no such vehicle is owned or hired by Govt of punjab. The apprehended vehicle does not belong to Govt of Punjab at all."
The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with the counting of votes set for February 8. A total of 699 candidates are contesting for 70 assembly seats in the national capital.
The Congress, which held power in Delhi for 15 consecutive years, has faced major setbacks in the last two assembly elections, failing to win any seats.
In contrast, AAP dominated the 2015 and 2020 assembly elections, securing 67 and 62 seats, respectively, out of 70, while the BJP won only three and eight seats in these elections. (ANI)
