AAP least bothered about protecting Delhi: BJP on CCTV row

New Delhi, Aug 8 (ANI): Taking a jibe at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over the decision to install CCTV cameras in the offices of Delhi legislators, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday said the Arvind Kejriwal-led government is busy securing its own house instead of providing security to the people of national capital. Ridiculing the AAP MLAs for urging the Delhi Assembly to provide CCTV cameras and civil defence volunteers, including women volunteers, at their office, BJP leader Vijendra Gupta said that Kejriwal government came with a promise of providing 15 lakh CCTV cameras across the capital but has not installed a single device in the past one and half years. "The Kejriwal Government had promised to provide 15 lakh CCTV cameras across Delhi. For protection of women, it was said that the government would deploy security guards in buses. But in the past one and half years they did not do anything. Not even a single CCTV camera has been provided at the needed place. And now they are securing their own houses," said Gupta. "The people of Delhi elected this government for their protection but they are securing themselves first. So, this shows the people of Delhi are secondary for the AAP," he added. Following requests made by the AAP MLAs, Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel said the assembly has decided to provide CCTV cameras at the offices of the MLAs. In the wake of the arrests of 12 AAP MLAs in the recent past, the legislators had requested the assembly to provide CCTV cameras and civil defence volunteers, including women volunteers, at their offices.
