New Delhi [India], January 4 (ANI): Claiming that people of Delhi have been "cheated a lot", BJP candidate from Bijwasan Assembly constituency Kailash Gahlot on Saturday said that Aam Aadmi Party has forgotten the common man and has become 'Khas Aadmi Party'.
He also thanked the BJP's top leadership for giving him the opportunity to contest the Delhi assembly elections.
"I thank the central leadership, PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Delhi BJP President for giving me the opportunity to contest elections from here... The people of Delhi have been cheated a lot. The Aam Aadmi Party which used to say that we will work for the common man, has forgotten the common man and has become 'Khas Aadmi Party'..
He further said that "no government can work" in Delhi without taking the Center and the Lieutenant Governor along.
"We have to take everyone along in Delhi, only the BJP can do development in Delhi," he added.
Earlier in November 2024, former Minister and AAP leader Kailash Gahlot joined the BJP in the presence of Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and other BJP leaders. He resigned from the AAP, expressing deep concerns over the party's direction and internal challenges.
Earlier on Saturday, BJP released its first list of 29 candidates for Delhi assembly elections expected to be held in February.
The BJP has fielded National General Secretary Dushyant Gautam from Karol Bagh, Manjinder Singh Sirsa from Rajouri Garden, Kailash Gehlot from Bijwasan and former Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely from Gandhi Nagar among others. Parvesh Verma has been fielded from the New Delhi assembly seat against Arvind Kejriwal.
The assembly elections in Delhi are due in February and the dates for the same are expected to be announced in a few days.
AAP won 62 out of the 70 seats in the 2020 assembly elections and BJP secured eighth seats. Congress, which was in power in Delhi for 15 successive years, has performed poorly in the past two assembly polls, failing to win any seat. (ANI)
