New Delhi [India], Feb.2 (ANI): To expedite the investigation of cases like VYAPAM and the chit fund (PONZI) scam, the Union Government has increased number of staff by sanctioning 598 new posts for Central Bureau of Investigation. This was stated by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions and Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Dr. Jitendra Singh in a written reply to a question by Harivansh in the Rajya Sabha today. There are 1081 Regular Cases and 75 Preliminary Enquiries were pending for investigation / inquiry by CBI as on 31.12.2016 as per information received from Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Dr. Singh said. The Government, based on assessment of the proposals for creation of posts received from CBI, decided to increase the number of staff. Dr. Singh also said, "Central Government has also taken various steps to strengthen Central Bureau of Investigation so as to reduce pendency of cases". The Union Government has sanctioned additional 92 Special Courts for CBI out of which 88 have become operational and has approved the appointment of 66 Public Prosecutors for CBI. The Government has also approved extension in deputation tenure of 31 Public Prosecutors on contract basis, he said. Dr. Singh informed that "A plan outlay of Rs. 309.52 crore has been allocated for implementation of various schemes viz Modernization of training centers in CBI, CBI e-governance, comprehensive modernization of CBI branches and offices and Construction of CBI office buildings at various cities for CBI over 12th Five Year Plan period".
