New Delhi [India], August 30 (ANI): Rajya Sabha MP and senior advocate Kapil Sibal on Wednesday said that the Prime Minister candidate of Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) won't matter as the upcoming 2024 election will be "Modi versus Modi".
"If you read an interview by an economist, she says that the 2024 election will be Modi vs Modi. The public will criticise what PM Modi has done in 10 years. The public knows the reality," Kapil Sibal told ANI.
He further said that the people know the reality of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government's tall claims and the work done by Modi during his tenure will take centre stage.
"The tall claims they (BJP) make show no result...So, in such a situation whether there is a PM candidate (of INDIA alliance) or not doesn't matter because the issue will be the work done by PM Modi in his tenure," he added.
When asked about the Prime Minister candidate of the INDIA alliance for the 2024 General elections, Rajya Sabha MP said, "Nobody should talk about who should be Prime Minister at this point...The alliance should look at the issues to be raised and the vision of the alliance..."
The first meeting of the joint opposition convened in Patna on June 23 and the second meeting was held in Bengaluru on July 17-18. The third meeting is slated to be in Mumbai on August 31-September 1.
A total of 26 to 27 parties are likely to participate in the third meeting of the newly formed opposition alliance in Mumbai.
INDIA or ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’ is a group of 26 opposition parties, including the Congress. The parties have come together to take on the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which is led by PM Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and prevent it from winning a third straight term at the Centre in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
