'Not office-of-profit': Sidhu insists on appearing on TKSS
New Delhi,[India] Mar. 21 (ANI): Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, insisting to participate as a celebrity-judge on a popular TV show even after becoming a cabinet minister in Punjab, on Tuesday asserted that it was not office-of-profit. "An office-of-profit is when the government is paying you money, employing you or giving you remuneration. A government office is a office-of-profit. This is not," Sidhu told ANI. "Sometimes, I work all seven days from early morning till 6 p.m. So, what I do after 6 p.m. is nobody's business," he added. The Constitution of India bars a member of the legislature from holding an office, under the Central of the State Government, which would yield salaries or other benefits. Sidhu, however, did not say much about Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh seeking legal counsel over whether the former can continue working in the entertainment industry as an office-holder. "The boss is always right," Sidhu said. Extending full support to her husband, Navjot Kaur Sidhu said even Shatrughan Sinha and Kirron Kher took up assignments, while being in the ministry. "Even Shatrughan Sinha did a movie being an MP and Kirron Kher also took up assignments," she said, however, stating if there arises "any legal hurdle, he will give up on the TV show." The cricketer-turned-politician, who is famous for his bi-weekly appearance on the TV show 'The Kapil Sharma Show', was on Tuesday allotted the portfolios of Local Government and Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Archives and Museums by Governor V.P. Singh Badnore. (ANI)
