'Loudmouth' Giriraj Singh should be responsible with his words: CPI(M)
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], Dec. 6 (ANI): Commenting on Union Minister Giriraj Singh's 'nasbandi' (sterilization) remarks, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) said Tuesday the former should behave in a responsible manner and not be callous with his words. "Giriraj Singh is famous for his loud mouth and occasionally he makes such comments that create tension or help polarization. He is not a fringe element but a minister in Modi government so he should be more responsible and before saying such things," CPI (M) leader Mohammed Salim told ANI. He reminded that the idea of 'nasbandi' wasn't received very well in the past and everyone saw its results during the Emergency period. Salim added that education, development, culture and other factors are responsible for the population and that they need to be improved first. "The size of family rather depends on the economy, educational background, cultural background and the amenities they are having and level of development," he said. Union Minister Singh on Sunday had said that there should be a law to control population for the country's development and social cohesion and called for strict action against those who violated the law. "Nasbandi after notebandi (sterilisation after demonetisation", he remarked. In April, Singh stoked controversy when he said that if the "two-child norm" was not followed, daughters of Hindus would not be "safe". Seeking a population control law, Singh had said that just as Hindus should have two children, Muslims should also have two children. (ANI)
